Arabic belongs to the Semitic family of languages which are over a thousand years old. While Arabic is the fifth most spoken language in the world, there are different dialects of the language used in different geographies of the world. In the modern day, where businesses and governments are spreading alliances across borders, Arabic is the key to connect to the native Arab speaking countries and Arabic Translators are the solution to bridge this communication gap.
As a provider of high-quality Arabic translation services, ArabEasy conducted a survey to gather information regarding the translation industry and the people involved. ArabEasy reached out to thousands of translators to gather information about them and surprisingly, the translator population of the world is concentrated in a limited number of countries.
So where are they located?
Eighty percent of the respondents were found to be living in only 10 countries where Egypt was home to more than 55% of these respondents. While Arab nations have so many international ties, the requirement for translation is all across the world. But this mismatch in the availability of translators and requirement of translation is a huge obstacle for businesses and governments to function seamlessly across borders.
While many of these translators can be approached online, there are numerous other problems in working across borders like, time differences between the client and the translators, assurance of quality of the translation, payment of the translators and the most major of them all, the confidentiality of the document/ content to be translated.
With all these variables affecting the workflow, translation industry is a highly disorganized sector with many entities, some effective and some in-effective, operating in the industry.
One may find numerous freelance translators but they can’t always be trusted with critical deadlines and quality of translation. There are small agencies with 4-5 translators or even some bigger ones with larger teams of translators. These agencies might be able to provide consistent quality as well as meet the translation deadlines but the services they provide also result in extremely high costs.
Due to the varying conditions of every translator/ translation agency in various locations across the world, the availability for them to work is also highly affected. There is no common ground for the clients to seamlessly find good translators whenever the need arises.
Are the translators always available?
Seventy percent of the respondents from the survey primarily pursued translation as a profession while the remaining thirty percent work as part time translators. In countries, where working in a formal work environment is an issue for women, they work as translators from the comfort of their homes. Students and other people, who are fluent in multiple languages, pursue the translation profession part time as a source of additional income.
Now, the requirement for translation is often required in a specific field of study or domain. And any field of study / domain would have specific jargons and terminology that pertains to that domain only. With the extensive scope of vocabulary or terminology of any language, the industry / domain specific terminology poses another challenge while achieving quality translations.
Which is why many translators not only have degrees in translation; they also possess knowledge of or have studied areas of interest in various industries and thus offer specialization in their translation services.
Can the translators translate all types of content?
Specialization is extremely essential as a health and medicine related document could be translated by a medical professional much better than a person with construction background would translate it. Given that, translation is more than just finding the right word in a different language, which is why context is highly critical for quality translation as words change meaning with context.
Take the word “Plant” as an example. If the word is used in the context of nature, a plant would mean a small flower or tree while if used in context of industries, the word plant may refer to a factory.
Taking into account the fact that a word as simple as “plant” when taken out of context results in such varied meanings, while working with important documents, which have no scope of error, translation is not possible without adequate knowledge and research.
An ideal solution for requirements of a client, a trust worthy translator must be readily available with the ability to translate large amount of information in the shortest possible time, all while assuring the quality of the translation as per the specific industry that the document relates to and in accordance to the context of the document and the intended use of the same.
ArabEasy has meticulously built a network of translators, available all across the world and offers around the clock solutions for translation needs as per client requirements by eliminating the hassles one may face while assuring confidentiality, approving quality or matching with translators at any hour of any day.
